I looked at the immunization schedule, his very first shot is Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis. Sorry, I guess he will be sore, but babies get their shots in their legs if that makes you feel any better.
It's preferable to have a few moments of suffering rather than a life threatening illness, though.
